Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading carmaker, has big plans for the Indian market. The company is gearing up to launch three new cars in the country, aiming to further strengthen its position in the Indian automotive industry. Despite the upcoming introduction of their first electric vehicle, the eVX, in 2025, Maruti Suzuki remains committed to expanding its offerings of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Let’s explore what Maruti Suzuki has in store for 2024.
The Grand Vitara has been incredibly successful in the compact SUV segment. Now, the Indian manufacturer is considering launching a 7-seater variant to compete with models like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and the new Tata Safari.
Reports suggest that the development of the seven-seater model is already underway. While the exact debut date hasn’t been confirmed, it is expected to be sometime next year. This new model is likely to feature a longer wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats. The engine options are expected to remain the same, with the company offering both mild hybrid and robust hybrid powertrains.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift
The upcoming Swift is one of Maruti Suzuki’s highly anticipated vehicles. Known for its enjoyable driving experience and affordability, the Swift has a significant fanbase in India. Recently, the company revealed the fully production-ready vehicle at the Tokyo Mobility Show 2023. Despite featuring a completely new external and internal design, the Swift maintains its iconic shape that has been familiar for years.
Maruti Suzuki is making a significant change by replacing its well-established K Series engine with the Z Series 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The company is aiming for strong fuel economy standards. While the power output is expected to be similar to the K12 unit, sources suggest that the new engine will deliver higher torque.
After introducing the new Swift in India, Maruti Suzuki is likely to proceed with the launch of the redesigned Dzire. The anticipated release date for the updated Maruti Suzuki Dzire is September 2024. The new Dzire will share a striking resemblance to the Swift, albeit with some modifications to the front and rear designs.
The primary distinction between the two vehicles will be the inclusion of a rear boot in the Dzire hybrid. The 2024 Maruti Dzire will be equipped with a new 1.2-liter petrol engine featuring robust hybrid technology, promising an impressive fuel efficiency of around 30-35 kmpl.
